Speaker:
Tamara Lyon

Topic:
“Giving Your Dream Wheels”

After graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1996, Tamara Lyon pursued a career in the computer industry and worked at Compuware Corporation in Milwaukee, WI. Shortly following her son's birth and some personal and emotional upheaval, she decided to leave the corporate world behind and actively pursue her dream of becoming a novelist. While putting her husband through medical school and residency and raising her son, Tamara Lyon has been writing novels in addition to running a successful cleaning business. With three women's fiction titles under her belt, The Ugly Tree (nominated for two separate awards), Falling to Him, and Fixing Forever Broken (award-winning) and more to follow, she understands what it means to persevere despite life's obstacles. Although she continues to write, she has also entered the speaking arena. Her speech titled, Giving Your Dream Wheels, chronicles her personal story and the importance of finding your dreams and making them come true one step at a time. After enduring a six month period of emotional upheaval during my early twenties, which pushed me into an untimely mid-life crisis, I began to look at everything in measured amounts of time. Because of what I had gone through, I had an up close and personal encounter with the brevity of life. I quickly realized how important it is to chase after dreams and make them come true. Shortly after this mid-life crisis, I began to actively pursue my dream of becoming a novelist. In my speech, Giving Your Dream Wheels, I share my personal story, tell humorous anecdotes about my side business, and impart valuable lessons that apply to anyone who has a dream and wants to turn their dream into a reality.
